Suetonius imbues his narrative with an almost superhuman Caesar, one whose awareness of his destiny motivated his drive for power (Wardle 2009: 109 cf. Indeed, the ancient biographical tradition associated Caesar’s successes with a particular belief in, or reliance upon, Fortune’s favors. Up until the fateful day of his demise, Julius Caesar’s career might be described as one in which he was very much the beneficiary of Fortune’s gifts. ![]()
